Serra Verde Express
Full of high expectations we took the train ride from Curitiba to Morretes because this would bring us spectacular views of the Atlantic Rainforest, the sea and other amazing things. The promised views turned out to be obstructed by lots and lots of clouds. But, even if it would be a sunny bright day, the train ride wouldn’t be as spectaculair as one would think. The guide in the (tourist) train gave us heads up when to take a picture which was very convenient because this moment would last several seconds at the most!
It’s nice to take the train ride but don’t expect to much and you’ll might enjoy it.
The largest part of the trip was through thick forest (kind of logical traveling through a rainforest 😉 ), tunnels and other not so spectaculair environments. All in all, a train ride that will take approximately 3-3,5 hours will give you some nice scenery for 10 minutes. What was an unexpected added value where the other tourists in the train; Brazilians from other parts of Brazil, Argentinians, Venezuelans et cetera, a great way to meet people.
The only reason we went to Morretes was because of the train ride, but it turned out to be waaay more beautiful than we imagined. A charming town with colonial buildings and a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains! If it wasn’t for the fact that we’d already booked our bus ride back to Curitiba, we would’ve definitely spent the night over there. The bus ride back to Curitiba was kind of exciting because the bus had several engine problems halfway up the mountain on a steep road. This didn’t feel very well because we were parked next to a cliff… but we survived!
